Seventeen of the 20 clubs in the first division of the Brazilian Championship (with the exception of Flamengo, Atlético-MG and Cuiabá) entered this Wednesday (15) with a “voluntary appeal” in the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD), trying to overturn the decision (provisional) injunction that authorizes Rubro-Negro to have an audience in the matches in which it is principal in the Brazilian Championship, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The team from Rio intends to have fans at Maracanã this Sunday (19), against Grêmio, at 8:30 pm, for the 21st round of the competition.

Last Tuesday (14), the president of the Court, Otávio Noronha, rejected the request of the 17 teams to revoke the injunction and forwarded the process to the Plenary of the STJD, scheduled for Thursday of next week (23), at 1 pm . One of the guidelines is precisely Flamengo’s request to receive fans in the games as a host. Auditor Felipe Bevilacqua will report the case.
Last Wednesday (8), representatives of 19 of the 20 teams in the championship unanimously decided, in the Technical Council, that the fans’ return to the stadiums would only take place when all participating clubs’ cities so authorized. The return of the public from the 23rd round, at the beginning of October, was also approved, provided that 100% of the teams are cleared for this purpose by the local authorities.
At the same meeting, the teams unanimously agreed to ask the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to suspend “rounds of the competition in which clubs signal with the use of an injunction to have audiences in the stadiums”, according to a statement released by the entity. In the statement, CBF said it would assess the case legally, “since [ele] interferes with the sphere of rights of third party purchasers of commercial properties” of the tournament.
The only team that did not send a representative to the meeting was Flamengo. The club understands that it is not up to the CBF or the clubs to “deliberate on the existence or not of audiences in the stadiums, as this is not a matter of their sporting competence”.
Atlético-MG, which participated in the meeting, stated this Wednesday, in a statement, that if Rubro-Negro continues with the intention of taking fans to the next matches as home team, it will use the same prerogative, since the rival is a competitor. straight for the national title. Galo also has an injunction that authorizes him to have fans in clashes at home.
