Last Sunday night (12), councilor Joaquim José Santos Alexandre, who held the warrant in the city of Duque de Caxias, in the Baixada Fluminense, was murdered in the Parque Novo Rio neighborhood, in the municipality of São João de Meriti.
According to witnesses, when disembarking from his car, the parliamentarian, popularly known as Quinzé, was shot several times by a sniper who was inside a white vehicle.
According to information from the newspaper Extra, Quinzé was elected for the first time to the City Council of Caxias in 2004, by the Progressive Party (PP). The neighborhoods of Olavo Bilac, Periquito, Jardim Leal, Bananal and Gramacho formed its electoral strongholds.
The former military policeman was known as the “protector” of communities and was in his third term. It had assistance projects for low-income families and sports initiation projects for children and teenagers. He was currently in the Liberal Party (PL) and was elected with 2,364 votes.

The Civil Police reported that “investigations are underway to identify the perpetrator of the crime. The expertise was carried out on the spot and steps are being taken to clarify the case”.
Quinzé is the second councilor of Duque de Caxias assassinated this year. In March, Danilo Francisco da Silva, Danilo do Mercado, and his son, Gabriel da Silva, 25, were killed in Caxias, in the Jardim Primavera neighborhood.
According to the Extra, the number of politicians murdered in the state since 2018 has reached 25. According to the police, most crimes are related to disputes involving militias.
Elson da Batata (PL) will take on Quinzé’s vacancy at Duque de Caxias City Hall.
