President Jair Bolsonaro has already appointed 14 members of political parties linked to the centrão as ministers of state since the beginning of his term. The number is equivalent to more than half of the 23 folders that exist in your government. Currently, there are nine ministers affiliated with acronyms that make up the group.
The numbers are part of a survey made by Brazil in fact from public documents. The data also show that the government reached its 52nd minister in just over two and a half years.
Of the 23 ministries, only 7 were preserved from appointments linked to central parties (Education, Foreign Affairs, Defense, Economy, Federal Comptroller General, Federal Attorney General and Infrastructure). All other folders were already in the hands of the acronyms.

The Ministry of Citizenship, for example, has already been occupied by three politicians with a federal deputy mandate: Osmar Terra (MDB-RS), Onyx Lorenzoni (DEM-RS) and João Roma (DEM-BA). The agency is responsible for social policies and emergency assistance.
The research also points out that even names theoretically linked to the “ideological wing” or to the military are also affiliated with the group’s parties, such as the Minister of Family, Women and Human Rights, Damares Alves (who is from the PP), the Minister of Science , Technology and Innovation, Marcos Pontes (PSL), and General Augusto Heleno (Patriota), who heads the Institutional Security Office.
In the search field, there is the option to type the name of ministers, parties or folders. The date of inauguration of each of the heads of the ministries was checked in the Official Gazette of the Union. The affiliation to the parties was verified in the records of the Superior Electoral Court.
The statistics contradict one of the main promises of Bolsonaro’s presidential campaign. During the election, the then candidate stated that he would nominate a “technical” ministry and that he would not be held hostage by the centrão, a grouping of physiological parties in the National Congress.
More and more, however, the chief executive distances himself from the speech. Last Thursday (22), Bolsonaro even stated that he is part of the Centrão, in an interview with a radio station, after being asked about the invitation to senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) for the congressman to assume the Civil House.
::With Ciro Nogueira, Centrão already commands the heart of the Bolsonaro government::
Ciro Nogueira is president of the PP, one of the Centrão parties. Currently without a party, Bolsonaro was already affiliated with the PP.
“I’m from the center. I was with the PP half of my time. I was with the PTB, I was with the then PFL. In the past, I integrated acronyms that were extinct, such as PRB, PTB. The PP, back there, was extinct, then it was reborn again “, declared the president.
The arrival of the PP chief at the Casa Civil is symbolic. He is the first civilian to command the portfolio in the Bolsonaro administration. He replaces General Luiz Eduardo Ramos, who was relocated to the General Secretariat of the Presidency, where Onyx Lorenzoni used to be.
Finally, Onyx will be in charge of the new Ministry of Employment and Social Security, a spin-off from the Ministry of Economy. At the official ceremony, Bolsonaro said: “We saw that it was increasingly necessary to seek the support of parliament. We were shaping ourselves”.
