On Thursday (5), the Chamber of Deputies approved the bill presented by President Jair Bolsonaro that paves the way for the privatization of the Brazilian Postal and Telegraph Company, the Correios.

The proposal, reported by Deputy Gil Cutrim (REP-MA) was approved with 286 votes in favor, 173 against and 2 abstentions. Only PT, PSB, PDT, PSOL, PCdoB and Rede guided votes against the proposal. Podes and PV have released their benches.

The minority leader, Marcelo Freixo (PSB-RJ), pointed out that, in addition to being efficient, the Correios are profitable and said that the Bolsonaro government is to blame for the lack of investment. “In 2019 alone, there were 100 million profit. When it is said that there is no investment in Correios, this is a political deliberation of the government itself,” he pointed out.
