Former mayor of Rio de Janeiro Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) went to court to try to reverse the decision of the Municipal Court of Auditors (TCM) that rejected the accounts presented during his term, in the period from 2019 to 2020.
In action, according to information from the portal G1, the defense of the former mayor argues that Rio experienced the worst economic recession in history at the time and that the administration made every effort to maintain public services.
In addition, Crivella’s lawyers point out that the rejection of accounts was supported by the opinion of the chief attorney of TCM, Carlos Henrique Amorim Costa. The prosecutor retired from the position of prosecutor in 2017, even so, he continues to hold the position he has held since 1983.
The former mayor’s appeal also asks that Carlos Amorim be removed from office immediately and that all his manifestations since his retirement be annulled.
In February of this year, the Public Ministry (MP) opened a process to investigate the situation of TCM and the process runs in secrecy.
At the opening of the investigations, the TCM denied that there was any irregularity in the situation of the chief prosecutor, but has not yet commented on Crivella’s appeal.
Crivella had the accounts in the management of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro disapproved, in a vote by the TCM, on the last 11th. The decision of the councilors was unanimous and refers to the year 2020, the last year of the Crivella administration. The opinion was sent to vote in the Chamber of Councilors, if approved the former mayor of Rio de Janeiro may be ineligible for a period of eight years.
