The Basic Income Campaign gathered information about more than a thousand single mothers who were unable to access emergency aid and have been going through the pandemic crisis without support since the beginning of the health crisis.
To ask the government to take action, the movement sent an official letter to the Ministry of Citizenship. The perception is that the problems of implementing the benefit affect mothers who raise their children alone in an even more cruel way.
The campaign has received hundreds of reports that confirm the scenario. There are cases of women who received amounts below what they are entitled to, and even situations in which the benefit was blocked or suspended and situations in which they have their registration pending for months.
For the group organizing the campaign, these cases need to be urgently reviewed and corrected. In addition, there is a demand for opening a communication and contesting channel, with the possibility of forwarding documents to facilitate communication with the Ministry of Citizenship.
To talk about the topic, Brasil de Fato broadcasts live on Youtube and Facebook with the director of Institutional Relations of the Brazilian Basic Income Network, Paola Carvalho, one of the member organizations of the Basic Income We Want campaign, and with the deputy Federal Fenanda Melchionna.
