In a game this Wednesday (01), against Coritiba, Londrina players entered the field with a banner with the words “No Racism! Londrina Esporte Clube repudiates any act of racism! This fight is ours!” The Serie B game ended in 3×2 for Coritiba. Celsinho scored Londrina’s second goal and, at the celebration, protested with an anti-racist gesture.
:: By blaming an athlete victim of racism, Brusque FC repeats a common posture in football; remember ::
Called “monkey” last Sunday (29) by a person in the stands of the game, under the command of Brusque (SC) with closed gates, and, according to referee Fábio Augusto Santos Sá Junior’s report, came from a member of the staff from Brusque: “Go cut that hair, you bee curl”.
Even so, player Celsinho, from Londrina, was the victim of another attack. At first, the direction of Brusque, which has Havan among its main sponsors, published a note in which it accused the player of “false imputation of crime” and said that he was “known for being involved in this type of episode…”
After the negative repercussions across the country, the team had to go back and issue a new note apologizing and saying that the previous note was “an unfortunate moment”. Whether the regret is sincere or not, the practical consequence has been the suspension of payments from at least one of the team’s sponsors. The company Barba de Respecto announced that “as long as there is no fair position of the team in relation to those directly responsible for the injuries carried out and the author of the initial note”, payment will be suspended.
In declaration to the website Globo Sport Paraná, Celsinho stated: “They are aware that they made a lot of mistakes in relation to the first note. They say I have this case three times, as if I were going to the stadium to be offended and called names. They had to drop a second note with an apology, but that doesn’t change the embarrassment, the pain, the disappointment I went through for the words spoken in that game. This is uncomfortable, revolting.” The athlete and the club intend to take measures in the common and sporting courts.
