After several pressure initiatives from the housing and population movements, the Law Project 1010/20, authored by Together, which prohibits evictions during the pandemic.

At the end of June, the project started being processed under the Urgency Regime, a mechanism that requires more agility in going to the plenary and will probably go to a vote in plenary this Thursday (5th), after being for more than 14 months proceeding in Alepe.
In addition, another achievement was the rejection of a sub-amendment that provided, among other points, for a 5-month limitation on the suspension of compliance with repossession warrants, evictions and judicial or even extrajudicial removals; and that allowed reintegration “in which eviction proves to be absolutely necessary to combat organized crime”, as stated in the text of the sub-amendment, considered by the co-deputies “an evident criminalization of movements fighting for housing”.

The suspension of evictions in the pandemic has already been determined by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), also approved by the Federal Chamber and is to be debated in the Senate. At the state level, organizations will continue to push for the approval of PL 1010/20, so that it becomes law and brings more security to the most vulnerable population, which does not have a roof to protect itself during the covid-19 pandemic.
