The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, stated in his book “The mitad of the Camino” that the Mexican Air Forces (FAM) aircraft that rescued Evo Morales from Bolivia after a coup d’état removed him from power in 2019 was the target of a rocket.

Mexico sent a plane to evacuate Evo from Bolivia in November 2019 and offered political asylum to the former union leader of the cocaleros.

“During the initial climb, the pilot observed from the left side of the cockpit, and when he was almost 1,500 feet above the ground, a light trail similar to the characteristic of a rocket at the seven o’clock position (back, to the left of the aircraft’s trajectory ) below the horizon”, states a document revealed by Obrador in his book.

The document also states that the pilot made a maneuver to avoid a possible impact and that a rocket launcher, known as an RPG, was pointed at the aircraft by a Bolivian military man at Cochabamba International Airport, in the Andean country. The document says that the incident was not communicated to Evo in order not to contribute to the current tense atmosphere.
