Without PT and union centrals, MBL acts against Bolsonaro

The demonstrations called by the Free Brazil Movement (MBL) and by Vem Pra Rua (VPR) this Sunday (12) against President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) started empty in the morning. The acts do not have the presence of the biggest opposition party, the PT, the main trade union centrals in the country and popular movements from the left field.

Belo Horizonte (MG), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and São Paulo (SP) are among the capitals where protests occurred in the morning. None of them registered a large public presence. The protesters were mostly dressed in white.

In the three cities, images published on social networks show sound cars with MBL representatives giving speeches. The movements also bring together other center and right-wing leaders who broke with the Bolsonaro government.

In São Paulo (SP), where the event is scheduled for Avenida Paulista, at 2 pm, protesters begin to gather in front of the MASP (São Paulo Art Museum), a traditional concentration point for events in the city. The protest should bring together possible presidential candidates in 2022, representing the so-called “3rd way”, such as João Amoêdo (New), Alessandro Vieira (Citizenship), Simone Tebet (MDB), Ciro Gomes (PDT), Luiz Henrique Mandetta (DEM) and André Janones (Forward).

left refuses participation

The actions of the MBL and Vem Pra Rua were initially called against Bolsonaro and also against former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. To facilitate the adhesion of parties, movements and leaders to the left, the groups decided to change the proposal of the demonstration. Now, the assertion is that the only flag is the impeachment of the current president. The shift, however, did not convince the main groups on the left.

Among the trade union centrals, only Força Sindical, UGT, CSB and Nova Central decided to summon their affiliates to the demonstrations. The country’s main central, the CUT, will not attend the events.

In the popular movements of the left there will also be no adhesion. Landless Workers Movement (MST), Homeless Workers Movement (MTST), Black Coalition for Rights, Uneafro, Popular Movements Center (CMP), among others, announced that they will not be on Avenida Paulista this Sunday.

PT and PSOL also do not go to the acts. The directions of the two acronyms said they were against the possibility of thickening the acts led by the group of federal deputy Kim Kataguiri (MBL-SP). State Deputy Isa Penna (PSOL) contradicted the initials and confirmed her presence at the demonstration.
